Indonesian thermal coal miner sets up digital tech innovation center in Singapore

Golden Energy and Resources, a subsidiary of Indonesian conglomerate Sinar Mas Group, said it would set up the GEAR Innovation Network center in Singapore to identify cost-cutting strategies for its mining operations.

The thermal coal miner said it would use digital technologies such as collaboration software, augmented and virtual reality, advanced fabrication, AI, and connected sensors for its work at the center, which is supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board.

GEAR will also consider partnerships with venture capitalists, universities, technology companies, construction players, and regulators, according to a statement.

“We recognise that no one can tackle these challenges alone. This is why we actively seek to build an ecosystem of like-minded partners to co-create solutions for GEAR’s operations that can also, in parallel, scale regionally,” GEAR’s Group CEO Fuganto Widjaja said.
