GREE To Invest 2 Billion Yen in SEA Start-ups, 1 Billion Yen in Indonesia
Last week, we reported that GREE formed GREE Ventures, an investment partnership which will be investing in start-ups across the globe. Under GREE Ventures is GV-I, an investment fund which focuses on Southeast Asia (SEA) and East Asia.
GV-I, as we learned from Tatsuo Tsutmi, a GREE rep, is a 2 billion yen fund ($25 million). Out of the 2 billion yen, 1 billion yen ($12.5 million) will be focused on Indonesia.
Tatsuo Tsutsumi told me:
[Our focus is on] content (including gaming) and advertisement. Now we are considering investing in some Indonesian start-ups. We will plan to establish investment arm in Indonesia, however [we] don’t have good candidate now. So we are looking for good talent in Indonesia.
On the Indonesia hire, Tsutmi said that GREE is looking for a person with three years experience in Internet business, has a strong network in Indonesia, knowledge in finance, and is able to speak fluent English and Japanese.
