Uber, Philippines’ LBC Express tie up to deliver your Christmas gifts this year

It’s that special time of year again, and you’ve probably got your hands full. If you’re busy buying and wrapping Christmas gifts, but have no time to sit through the horrible Metro Manila traffic to deliver them yourself, don’t panic.

Global car booking service Uber has partnered with LBC Express, the Philippines’ largest cargo and logistics firm, to do your gift-giving for you this year.

From December 15 to 21, you may use the Uber app to request a motorcycle-riding LBC Express courier to pick up and deliver your presents to and from any point in Metro Manila within 90 minutes. Users will be charged a flat fee of PHP169 (US$3.78) for every successful delivery.

Here’s how it works: open the Uber app, move the slider to the “Padala” (deliver) motorcycle icon, request for a ride, then provide the rider with the delivery address when he arrives in your area.

Once the delivery is done, the transaction will be charged to your Uber account. Only one delivery address per trip is allowed. Shipments for pick-up should have a combined weight not exceeding five kilos, or dimensions of one cubic foot.

Uber often does promos like this in other markets. For instance, they did a Christmas tree delivery promo in the US, puppies in Taipei, and ice cream in many countries worldwide. Uber expressed interest in the past to engage in logistics or goods delivery. The partnership in the Philippines is definitely a step in that direction.
