2010 is a Meaningful Year for Twitter

new twitter birdTwitter wraps up this year with several trend reports and thoughts. In a heartfelt blog post, Twitter thanks its users for the magnificent past 12 months. In 2010, more than 25 billion tweets were sent and more than 100 million users joined the micro-blogging service.

To support growing demands, the Twitter team has grown from 130 people to more than 350 today.  In the recent round of funding, Twitter also announced two additional members to its board of directors – Mike McCue and David Rosenblatt.

“We’re thankful for every Tweet, every account, and every talented employee who has decided to join the Twitter team,” said Twitter through a blog post.

Indeed, Twitter has grown fast and large this year. We have seen numerous introductions that have made the service better and global. Besides the United States, Twitter is also popular in Japan, Brazil and Europe and hopefully we’ll continue to see Twitter in more markets in 2011. Its new design (which is also featured in Twitter tech trend chart) and ad products are also widely popular this year. Most importantly, the success Twitter has enjoyed through its Promoted Tweets should turn it into a profitable and sustainable company.

In the past couple of months, Twitter has also announced (or briefly stated) and teased its audience with several exciting upcoming products. They include reputation score, Twitter Analytics for businesses and Ping integration. Without any doubt, 2011 will be an exciting year for Twitter. We’ll see how the Twitter continues to grow and play a major role in the social media space.

So, how has Twitter impacted your life in 2010? Is 2010 as meaningful for you as it is for Twitter? Share your thoughts with us.
