Twitch.tv, one of the top live streaming websites has turned its attention towards mobile gaming. Earlier today, Twitch announced the release of the Twitch Mobile Software Development Kit (SDK) that will allow mobile game developers to integrate live broadcasting, capturing, and archiving features into their games.
According to the press release, the Twitch Mobile SDK will have the following features:
- The ability to capture and broadcast gameplay video and audio
- Video capture from the front-facing camera
- Audio capture using an internal or external microphone
- Videos can be archived for immediate viewing on Twitch and uploaded for sharing
- Broadcast quality can be toggled between High, Medium, and Low settings
- Robust chat options including emoticons badges and chat colors
- The easy discovery of related broadcasts from other gamers
This new feature aims to allow Twitch users the ability to broadcast live video content from anywhere in addition to being able to watch anywhere. The Twitch mobile viewing app already has a whopping 10 million installs for both Android and iOS combined which reflects the popularity of Twitch among mobile users.
Video game analyst Michael Pachter from Wedbush Securities believe that the mobile game live streaming feature may “convert millions of Twitch’s passive viewers into active broadcasters”.
