SMS or text messaging are efficient ways to communicate, especially when you have little available time to tell someone something. When you want to make your voice heard by your girlfriend or your family, making a call is an easy option — but the downside is, you may be bothering them.
Genesix, a smartphone application developer backed by Tokyo’s web service juggernauts EC Navi, may have solved this problem. Tomorrow it plans to release an iPhone app called Jumvo, which enables “Push-To-Talk” voice messaging. Your message can be recorded within a 15 seconds limit, and it can be transfered to up to nine parties (they must have the same app on the iPhone.)
There’s an app called Heytell that falls in the same category, which has gained more than five million users worldwide. However Jumvo has a simpler interface and allows you to record a message without tapping anything. I think it’s especially useful for busy people who have loved one living in a different time zone or someone who follows a different daily schedule.
According to the development team’s blog, the intention is for Jumvo to spread out worldwide, and to that end its backbone environment has been designed to tolerate more than one million users. Genesix has developed more than two dozens apps for the Android and the iPhone since its launch in May 2010. The Jumvo name is an amalgamation of the Swahili greeting, ‘Jambo ,’ and the word ‘voice.’
