A woman follows along with the exercises
Chinese company Touchmedia has developed an intriguing campaign to help taxi passengers get in a little bit of exercise as they ride from here to there. Its ‘Mr. and Miss WOW’ campaign (what?!) aims to deliver guided exercise instruction via the in-cab touchscreen.
The exercises seem to be relatively simple upper-body movements and stretches, but they should provide some value to China’s urban work force during commutes. Here’s a quick video of one of the workouts:
The program is expected to reach over 100 million passengers in 4 major cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen) over the next 14 weeks. There will also be health tips, a health survey, and a contest where participants can win health-related services like gym time or consultations, and other assorted prizes.
The CEO of Touchmedia, Micky Fung explained his hopes for the campaign:
Given that the majority of taxi riders are affluent, urban professionals and white collar workers, Touchmedia’s “In-taxi Workout on Wheels” provides simple yet useful exercises that can be learned in the taxi, then applied while sitting at their office desk. Hopefully, the effectiveness will encourage more exercise.
Maybe next time, they might just walk!
