The Mineski Open Challenge: can you beat the Mineski Dota 2 team and its coach Mushi?

If you’re a fan of the Dota 2 eSports scene, and in the Phillippines, then I’ve got some good news. Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung from Team DK is currently in the Philippines looking to coach the country’s most popular Dota 2 team, Mineski.

Yes, fanboys and fangirls, the Malaysian superstar and one of the best solo mid players —if not the best —in the world is here in the Philippines and he’s issued a challenge to all amateur and professional Dota 2 teams. Beat Mineski and walk away with PhP 5,000 ($110~). No fees for your team, no strings attached, and no consequences for the losers. In fact, aside from getting experience, you also get treated to Pancit Canton.

Interested challengers can head over to the Mineski Infinity E. Rodriguez starting 6:00 PM SGT today, February 13. Now I don’t know about you, but if I had a team and we had time (it’s an hour after working hours, guys), I’d be making a beeline for that challenge without a care in the world if I lost.

So is Mushi going to be coaching Mineski for good? Of course, not. He will be returning to China after his Chinese New Year break is over. However, the experience gained and Mushi’s insight will be beneficial not only to Mineski’s Dota 2 team, but also to the challengers.

What does Mushi get from all of this? Isn’t he worried about having more competition? Actually, according to a recent post on Mineski.net this challenge was thought of by Mineski CEO Ronald “Roro” Robins and Mushi himself. The goal was to provide insight to the Mineski Dota 2 team to instill them with the attitude of ‘professional gamers’.

According to Mushi:

You train, you follow the schedule, you communicate with each other, you respect your teammates, and you work together as a team.

It’s no secret that Mineski isn’t the most favored team in the scene, and the Philippine players get a lot of flak for many different things. However, Mushi seems to see things differently and even commented on how the Mineski Dota 2 team has a chance to achieve something big and how he doesn’t want them to waste that chance.

Will this event be streamed? We got in touch with Mineski and were told that, unfortunately, this event won’t be streamed.
