TikTok says music creators will receive 100% of the royalties on their music in the first year and 90% after that period. Creators will also get access to a pool of resources, including audience insights and expert advice from a dedicated SoundOn artist team.
The new platform also lets creators distribute their music on other platforms.
SoundOn is currently available in the US, UK, Brazil, and Indonesia. TikTok pointed out that some top artists like Muni Long, Games We Play, Abby Roberts, and Chloe Adams are already in the new platform.
The launch of SoundOn comes amid TikTok’s growing influence on the global music industry. Several viral songs on TikTok have found their way onto the Billboard charts, according to a report.

That said, it’s not the first time TikTok has made efforts in the music distribution space. In 2020, The company entered into a deal with UnitedMasters, an American music distributor, to allow artists and creators to share their original songs from the TikTok app to all major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
