Ethis Group, a social finance platform focused on Shariah-compliant investments, has launched the Ethis Super Angel (ESA) Syndicate – a rebranding of its previous ESA angel investment program.

The new program will be led by four of Ethis’ board members: Ethis investment management director Amran Mohd, Dinar founder and CEO Khaled Fouad, BETA Foundation CEO and founder Lilyana Abdul Latiff, and Ethis founder and group managing director Umar Munshi.
According to a statement, the ESA Syndicate is by invitation only for angel investors who aim to back startups focusing on the Muslim world and halal sectors. The program added that it will have a “special interest” for the fintech, agritech, and halal food distribution industries, among others. It will also be paying special attention to camel startups.
“We must step up and start investing more in Muslim founders and Shariah-compliant startups. Lack of access to funding for startups is a huge gap in the Islamic finance universe,” said Umar.
The ESA Syndicate started in 2020 as a private group with almost 50 angel investors who have invested US$3 million in nine startups.
