Ever wondered what a cross between Temple Run and Final Fantasy would look like? Me neither, but it looks like Square Enix’s new Guns N’ Souls will be just that.
Guns N’ Souls will be something of a sequel to the fairly unknown Song Summoner that was released back in 2008 for iOS. Song Summoner allowed you to control a character named Ziggy, and summoned troops based off of the songs on your iPod.
This time around Ziggy awakes to find himself stuck on a prisoner transport ship for some crime that he has committed. In the tutorial video released today, he says he has no time for this, and must break out. This is where the running part comes in.
You will control Ziggy as he runs through the halls of the prisoner transport ship and shoots down mechanical enemies that get in your way. You slide your finger up or down to control whether Ziggy jumps over or slides under obstacles. Pretty basic game mechanic, but as you progress and take down more enemies your gun will charge up and make more powerful attacks. Eventually you will go head to head with a boss and the running is replaced with dodging.
Guns N’ Souls will be released for iOS devices tomorrow and there are plans for an Android version later this Spring. Watching the opening video, made Guns N’ Souls look like possibly the most epic thing to ever hit iOS, but unfortunately the tutorial video bored me to tears. Regardless, you can be sure that we will have a review of the game tomorrow.
