A couple weeks ago, I wrote that Chinese gaming giant Tencent was looking to debut two major new games this month at a press event. And while that event is still yet to be held, the official site of the new action game, codenamed Kgame, has been steadily leaking information about what to expect.
The site has already leaked the identities of several of the game’s playable characters, and they’re certainly an eclectic bunch. Leaked so far are Sun Wukong (the monkey king from Journey to the West), Zorro, a pirate named Captain Jack (probably inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean films), Zhao Yun (a famous general from the Three Kingdoms period), and Lucifer. A sixth playable character is set to be unveiled at some point today. Each of the six heroes are also labeled with a class: Journey to the West, Knights, Adventurers, Heroes, Gods, and Boxers, which may suggest that future characters will also fall into those six categories.
How the game will be played still isn’t clear, but it’s going to be a mixture of action and teamwork. That certainly suggests something MOBA-like, and Chinese gaming site 17173 is reporting that the game is a lot like League of Legends except that the condition for a team’s victory is kills rather than the taking of objectives. Whatever the game turns out to be, the official site seems to suggest it’ll be more focused on PVP than most MOBA games are at the moment.
There still seem to be a few mysteries left to unravel, though. For example, why does the character Zhao Yun have a soccer ball next to him? I have no idea, but I can’t wait to find out.
