The Sandbox expands to Germany through acquisition

Animoca Brands subsidiary The Sandbox has acquired Sviper, a Germany-based game development studio. The deal amount was not disclosed.

“We are thrilled to join The Sandbox and contribute to the creation of a cutting-edge virtual world that combines gaming, creativity, and community,” said Ole Schaper, CEO and co-founder of Sviper.

Established in 2016, Sviper said it works with some of the biggest intellectual properties and partners for personal computers and mobile devices in the world.

Sviper has been collaborating with The Sandbox for over a year and is fully integrated into the platform’s ecosystem. Sviper’s team currently has 40 members, who are based in the gaming tech hub in Hamburg, and it is now hiring for The Sandbox in Germany.

The acquisition is expected to help both sides to build new multiplayer gameplay options, social features, and Game Maker features for creators.

The Sandbox was founded by Sébastien Borget and Arthur Madrid in 2011. The company offers a decentralized virtual gaming world, which contains digital real estate and brand-led experiences, also allowing users to buy, sell, and create digital assets.

In related news, public blockchain Cardano will be integrating its Clay Nation NFT project into The Sandbox. This partnership between the two firms marks a push for interoperability in Web3, promoting the synergy of two different systems.
