Tecmo Koei to limit how much money kids can spend in its games

We’ve all heard of people spending absurd amounts of money on in-app purchases or online play. Very few people nowadays bat an eye at the thought of spending a buck for additional play or powerups. This is all well and good for us adult gamers, but what about the kids who play these games?

Tecmo Koei has decided to take action that will limit the purchases minors can make in its games by the end of the year. Its new policy will restrict anyone 15 and under to a monthly limit of 5,000 yen (roughly $50) and anyone between the ages of 16-19 to 20,000 ($200) a month. No real details yet as to how Tecmo Koei will implement these restrictions, but I’m sure we will find out more in the near future.

These new restrictions will still allow for minors to make purchases, but they should still prevent parents from having to to worry about outrageous credit card statements at the end of the month. This is a smart move on Tecmo Koei’s part, and I think we will be seeing more and more companies following suit in the future.
