Microsoft Ventures’ latest batch of 12 startups has raised US$18 million together

When startups that have already raised funding decide to apply for an accelerator, you know they’ve got big plans.

Bangalore-based accelerator Microsoft Ventures announced its latest batch of 12 this week. Nine of these startups have already raised funding, with some having as much as US$4 million in their pockets. Together, they have raised US$18 million.

The 16-week program generally focuses on later stage startups and alumni of the accelerator include CanvasFlip, CloudCherry, and Teewe.

A WhatsApp for education

Admission Table is an app that helps potential college applicants figure out where they want to apply, chat with admissions counselors, and get help on their college applications.

It calls itself the “WhatsApp for education” and was founded by Manish Katyan, Deepak Iyer, and Duleep Deosthale.

In 2013, the startup made it into the seventh batch of 500 Startups. The amount wasn’t disclosed, but 500 usually funds anywhere between US$25,000 and US$250,000.

It has also received funding in an earlier round that included Amit Gupta, the co-founder of mobile ad startup InMobi, and the fund led by ex-Infosys honcho T.V. Mohandas Pai, Aarin Capital. Other sources also show that it’s received undisclosed amounts of funding from 500 Startups partner and India head Pankaj Jain, as well as the original founding partner of the fund, Dave McClure.
