Indian healthcare app Practo raises $90M round led by Tencent

Practo, a doctor discovery app for India, has raised US$90 million in a series C round led by China’s Tencent, an internet giant known for its mobile service WeChat.

The lineup for this round features Sequoia India, Sequoia Capital Global Equities, Google Capital, Russian billionaire Yuri Milner, Sofina, Altimeter Capital, and Matrix Partners.

During a previous interview with Tech in Asia, Practo founder Shashank ND said it wants to develop into a comprehensive health platform. In the press release announcing the funding, Practo claims to list 200,000 healthcare practitioners on its service and enable 10 million searches a month. It has 1,500 employees on the payroll.

It has expanded to 35 Indian cities and three countries. It plans to reach 100 Indian cities in 10 countries spreading across Southeast Asia, Latin America, Middle East, and Eastern Europe.

Prior to the series C round, it raised US$30 million from Sequoia India and Matrix Partners. In total, it has US$125 million in funding.
