AirAsia taps Foodpanda for food delivery

AirAsia has tapped Foodpanda to handle the travel app’s food delivery business as both sides embark on a strategic partnership.

According to a statement, this means that AirAsia’s food offerings will transition to a dine-in model.

In August 2021, the travel firm launched its food delivery service in Malaysia and subsequently expanded to Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. In January this year, it reportedly closed down the service in Singapore.

Besides food delivery, AirAsia’s ride-hailing service will be integrated into the Foodpanda app.

The partnership will also explore other collaborations, including payment solutions, joint loyalty programs, and subscription plans, said Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A, the holding company of AirAsia.

Headquartered in Germany, Foodpanda operates in over 300 cities across 11 markets in Asia Pacific. The company said it has a network of 100,000 merchants and thousands of delivery partners.
