    Why do startups fail?

Startup failure rates are excessively high. The startup you are working on will most likely fail. The key reasons startups fail are:

    1. No product-market fit
    2. Running out of money
    3. Wrong team
    4. Premature scaling
    5. Timing
    6. Going too niche too soon
    7. Raising too much money
    8. Not pivoting when required
    9. Founder despair
    10. Not focusing 100%

Founders need to keep their startup in check by doing a “pre-mortem” during the growth of their startup to ensure problem areas are averted. Cash burn is becoming increasingly important and founders need to have a strong grasp of cash, being able to distinguish between their variable and fixed costs.

The increasingly uncertain financial markets mean many startups will die and the founders won’t know what has hit them. You need to understand how your startup starts to rot away and what you need to do now to save it.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree these are the key reasons why startups fail? Leave your comments below.
