Why can't phone manufacturers give us a device we all want?

Looking at the uproar over Sony’s Xperia Z4 launch (and many other device launches in the past) makes me wonder why manufacturers in general aren’t able to produce a killer product that would satisfy their target audience?

    • There’s no excuse for not knowing what users want as everywhere you look, you’ll see various wishlists of specs for devices.
    • Not having the components is only a valid excuse if they are unable to get their hands on those but definitely not if they manufacture the self-same components that rival devices have used in the equivalent generation of products.
    • Price? Time and time again, consumers have shown that they are willing to spend on getting the best specced devices/gadgets regardless of the cost.

Would appreciate if anyone with a clearer insight to add-on more points or add to the discussion.
