Vietnam’s first mobile phone is a serious business?

The very first Vietnamese homegrowth smartphone by BKAV is a huge landmark on Vietnamese Tech industry.

This would be a great potential time where Vietnam can really use it as a stepping stone to reach out to the world. The product quality has not confirmed because we have to wait until next month when it reaches more users and also reviewers. Little did people know that, BKAV has used that strategy as a huge “black” PR stunt to introduce the product. They organized and set the event theme just like Apple from head to toe (the CEO even dressed like Steve Jobs style) and claimed that their product is the best (way better than Apple and Samsung). This can be one of the tremendous controversial tech event that have happened in Vietnam, many Tech gurus thought that it was a joke.

Many Vietnamese people argued that people need stop talking terribly about the product and start support Vietnamese stuff. Others think that it is just a blind patriotism because the world is flat now, companies need to compete directly with global competitors on their home market.

If we look at BKAV situation, it’s hard for them to do anything better than Apple and Samsung have done. That’s may be the main reason why they decided to “go big or go home”, even if it’s bragging and untrue. And because of the thirst of success, they have created a huge controversial swing among Vietnamese tech community. What do you think BKAV should’ve done better? What is the best strategy for a Tech company launch a high tech product like smartphones and have to compete directly to Apple or  Samsung.
