Just read this interesting article about Neopets (yes it’s Buzzfeed I know), and it really brings back memories. I was pretty addicted to it when I was a kid. It occurred to me that Neopets could’ve dominated mobile if it wanted. It was doing a social network for kids before many others, it had millions of users, and it was building a platform for casual games based on its own stable of characters (think Line). Too bad it didn’t have a stable management team running the show (the site changed ownership twice). The site as it stands today looks like it’s still from the 00s. Chalk this up to the list of what-could-have-beens.
