What I learnt working on my startup this New Year’s Eve

Its New Year’s Eve.

Booze bought. Playlists thought. Looking fly. Spirits high. The plan is on: Rage all night!

Some of us do party like this

But you get stuck at work

Yes, it’s your startup. It’s where you apparently run the show and have full control over work hours.

Like many others my age, I too, was recently bitten by the startup bug. Last year, I decided to quit my job to start something of my own. Little did I realise what I was setting myself up for. This New Year’s Eve, I took some time to reflect on it.

6 things starting up taught me in 2015

1. Your dreams will make you move (literally)

Mark Twain once said:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did. Sail away from the safe harbor. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Not long ago, I surprised even myself by moving from Delhi to Kolkata to work on a tech startup. We all have a story of something extraordinary we did to accomplish what we once dreamed of. And this is mine.

Nearly a year in, I’m proud to say that I have no regrets. Here’s a snap with the friends I now call family!

2. Co-founders break your heart when they leave

It felt odd at first though. I was sad to miss out on all the fun my friends were having that I was supposed to be part of. If it counts, I had Snapchat to thank for a night lived vicariously! I’m glad that we got the work done and are back on track (well only till the next missed deadline). New Year’s Eve has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate the new year.
