Discuss: When will AI replace human intelligence?

discuss-ai-7

20 years ago, world chess champion Garry Kasparov lost to IBM’s Deep Blue computer. Fast forward to today, the chess app on my iPhone defeats me on the daily at medium difficulty setting. But then again, I’m no chess champion to begin with. A world champion being defeated by an AI in the 90’s, is something to think about.

Rampancy is the word to describe how Artificial Intelligence is slowly taking over the world. We have seen layoffs in favour of robot labour, the ability to generate videos from text articles, chatbots that allow you to purchase your favourite clothes online. Not forgetting the following interesting AI uses:

Scary thoughts of a dystopian sci-fi Skynet controlled future would have certainly passed through our minds. Not to mention flashbacks to the video game/movie moments where an AI goes berserk and totally flipping insane, see HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey and GLaDOS from Valve’s Portal.

Even Innovation Works founder and former Google China head Kaifu Lee voiced how far ahead AI is, and the dangers of it causing humans to lose our fighting spirit and sense of purpose. On the bright side, he discounted the enslaving of humanity, phew!

Let’s discuss

  • The future of AI
  • AI and human intelligence
  • The potential and hype of AI
  • AI taking over human jobs
