Twitter To “CONQUER” Japan And More

Japan Twitter mobile siteA partnership with India’s largest mobile operator gave Twitter the potential to “conquer” the Indian market.

But that wasn’t enough for Biz Stone and co. – They want Japan next.

Having launched Twitter in Japanese back in April 2008, the micro-blogging giant has accumulated more than 783,000 Japanese users in its portfolio.

Out of which, 95% of them tweet via their mobile phone; a statistic that probably inspired Twitter to launch a Japanese mobile site just yesterday!

Co-founder Biz Stone said it best:

“It’s an excellent opportunity for us to see where we can go in Asia in general because Japan represents a leading edge, with advanced mobile usage,” said Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, who traveled to Tokyo this week for the launch. “Mobile is in Twitter’s DNA.”

    India, Japan..What’s next?

In recent days, Twitter’s intention with Asia is clear. Would it do better than Facebook, which has not been too successful in Asia?

That’s not all. Twitter has also planned to roll out the site in Spanish, German, French and Italian over the next few months. Sounds like Twitter is thinking of “conquering” the world.

Facebook Lite could have helped a bit, but with Twitter’s aggressive expansion plan, Facebook might need to come out with new ideas to prevent Twitter from taking over its leadership in the social media space.
