Blue-collar jobs platform secures $10m debt facility from Lendable

Workmate, a Singapore-headquartered informal workers marketplace, has secured US$10 million loan from Lendable.

It will use the amount to onboard more workers in Indonesia and Thailand. About US$1.5 million of the committed amount will be immediately available.

Workmate is Lendable’s first client with a presence in Thailand.

Founded in 2015 with the name Helpster, Workmate provide a platform that allows businesses to simplify its workforce management from recruitment to operations.

On the other hand, workers are shown job offers that match their skills and experiences. The platform also has a feature that ensures users get paid on time, a protection that usually only formal employees can enjoy, according to the company.

At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the company focused on essential services such as warehousing and delivery to meet the demand from employers and offered jobs at a time when unemployment was rising. The company says that its business grew 3x since the start of the health crisis.

Workmate currently serves over 200 enterprise clients as employers, providing 1.5 million hours in jobs to workers each month. It counts delivery services such as Ninja Xpress and Foodpanda, as its clients.
