We’ve rounded up our four-city tour around Asia in search of the best startups to showcase at Tech in Asia Singapore 2016’s Bootstrap Alley. Our pit stops included Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Kuala Lumpur, hosting a total of 325 attendees and 21 pitching startups. The handpicked startups in each city vied for victory to win a sponsored trip to our fifth flagship Singapore conference, where the winner from each tour leg will get to enjoy free flights, accommodation, and a booth to strut their stuff on April 12 and 13.
Congratulations to all winners! Here are the four startups who won praise from our investor judges:
Ho Chi Minh City winner: AntBuddy
AntBuddy prides itself on being a real-time work communication tool, providing the best of both worlds: productivity and happiness. The product is built as a unified communications and collaborative tool that provides instant messaging, calling, file sharing, task management capabilities, and more. Another distinguishing aspect of AntBuddy lies in its integration with tools like GitHub, Gitlab, Trello, and Offic.co. The startup is currently developing team building features such as rewarding bonus points to employees as well as real-time surveys and feedback.
Hong Kong winner: BitMEX
BitMEX is a trading platform that offers investors open access to global financial markets using Bitcoin and crypto-currency derivatives. The platform boasts an easy-to-use interface and a suite of tailored products and tools. It claims to be able to service retail investors cheaper than traditional financial institutions, as well as provide up to a maximum leverage of 100 times compared to its competitors Bitfinex and OKCoin.
Tokyo winner: Z-Works
The “IoT Evangelist for Health Care”, Z-Works aims to reduce strain on eldercare workers, the elderly, and their families by providing smart healthcare solutions. Its suite of products – such as light bulbs that measure heart rates, motion sensors that detect body temperature and rate of movement, and door sensors that determine activity levels – collects essential data and sends them to an easy to understand interface accessible by mobile apps or desktop.

Kuala Lumpur winner: GliaCloud
Videos are widely considered one of the best marketing tools that can help businesses expand their reach. Yet, creating one can be time consuming and there are no guarantees that results will follow. Here’s where GliaCloud wants to change the world of advertising and media with GliaStudios, its product that produces Artificial Intelligence (AI) auto-generated video content.
Its intended use is for bloggers and publishers, who can use the cloud infrastructure and patented semantic analytics technology to easily create videos from their articles. On top of that, GliaStudios is also able to analyse behaviour and feedback from the videos produced, allowing its clients to know their viewers’ tastes and preferences.
With less than a month to go to the biggest conference in Tech in Asia’s history, these four startups along with other curated ones, are preparing to put up a good show this April to spread the word about their product to the tech community.
