Seasoned investor Boon Ping Chua is now a partner at Cento Ventures after leaving his nine-year stint at Straits Capital Investments – the corporate venture arm of Singapore Press Holdings – effective September 1.
Chua, who announced the move in a LinkedIn post today, served as the CEO of Straits Capital Investments – which was formerly known as SPH Ventures.
With Cento, he will be focusing on early-stage deals in Southeast Asia. Cento has invested in 21 companies across the region, including 2C2P, Pomelo, and Coda Payments.
Chua has more than 20 years of experience in venture capital and M&A in the tech, media, and telecommunications sectors. He has held executive roles at companies like EDB Investments, Mediacorp, and SingTel Ventures.
The executive also sits on the boards of firms such as Chope, Oddle, and MoneySmart.
Under his leadership, Straits Capital Investments achieved more than 1x of distribution to paid-in capital, which measures cumulative proceeds returned to investors.
“This performance is definitely on par with traditional VCs and proves that corporate ventures, when done right, can achieve both strategic and financial outcomes,” he said.
Cuscaden Peak Investments – the company that acquired Singapore Press Holdings – will now manage the portfolio.
