Report: EA wants a China partner for Titanfall, Tencent first in line

Titanfall, the biggest shooter of the year thus far, still hasn’t been released in China. And though a Chinese version of the game will be coming to the Chinese Xbox One and to PC in the Middle Kingdom, exactly who will be running the multiplayer-only game’s online functionality is still up in the air.

Rumor has it, though, that the game’s China operator is destined to be Tencent. EA has worked with Tencent before—the company runs FIFA Online 3 in China—and it does offer the largest native user base of any Chinese game company, thanks to its social media prowess.

There are also reports, though, that Perfect World is in the running. The company has managed to land the China publishing rights to some high-profile Western games including Dota 2. Moreover, the company has shown with its launch-day console adaptation of Neverwinter that it is extremely eager to be involved with China’s fledgling console games industry.

There’s no official word yet on which company (if it is in fact one of these two) will be chosen.
