Razer seeks $7m from Capgemini for 2020 data breach

Gaming Titan Razer has sued its vendor Capgemini, a Paris-based IT solutions provider, over a cybersecurity breach in 2020 that leaked the personal information of more than 100,000 Razer users, Channel News Asia reported.

The Singapore-born gaming firm is seeking compensation of nearly US$7 million in damages, which also includes a US$2,000 reward to the security researcher who discovered the breach under the company’s bug bounty program.

In its lawsuit, Razer alleged that the security breach was the result of a misconfiguration of the “ELK Stack,” caused by one of Capgemini’s employees.

In September 2020, security researcher Volodymyr Diachenko reported that data, including email addresses and phone numbers, of over 100,000 Razer customers had been exposed for nearly a month due to a “server misconfiguration.”
