Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), a US-based VC major, is looking to set aside US$500 million for startups in India, TechCrunch reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
The company is also aiming to hire for several investment roles in India, the sources added. Current a16z partners, including Seema Amble and Sumeet Singh, have already spoken to local startups.
One of the people in the know said a16z is looking to invest in an opinion-sharing startup with a valuation of roughly US$250 million. The VC firm has also been in contact with an early-stage fintech startup, another source said.
An investor in a major fund in India told TechCrunch that they are starting to see a16z look more seriously at India. A16z did not respond to the publication’s request for comments.
