Software Freedom Day (SFD), a worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), will be in happening in Cebu, the Philippines, on September 15, 2012.

Dubbed the “1st Software Freedom Day Cebu 2012,” the event will be held at the University of San Carlos. Admission is free and open to anyone who wants to know and learn more about the world of open source.

Some of their sponsors, Mozilla, Sulit.ph, and Globe, a telecommunications company in the Philippines, will be participating in the event to share their knowledge and tell about how they are utilising open source for business.

Rachel Jaro, who is co-organizing this event with Jonathan Himbing, attended SFD in Manila in 2009 and this year she met the people behind CP-Union group, who organised the previous SFD Manila. The group gave her the idea to organise one for Cebu.

According to Jaro, she is an open source advocate, one of many who earn a living using FOSS and hopes that many will benefit from it as well.

“In the FOSS community, the way to give back is to share it with others too,” she added.

Those who are interested to join this event can signup at their Eventbrite page.
