Food startup unveils plant-based cheese product in Indonesia
Green Rebel Foods, an Indonesia-based food startup, has launched “plant-based cheddar cheese” to celebrate world vegan month.
The startup has also added a dairy-free category to its new lineup, which also features “beefless” (beef alternative made from shiitake mushroom), “chick-in” (chicken alternative made from non-genetically modified soy), and “wholefood protein.”

Green Rebel Foods said its new plant-based cheddar cheese is made from locally sourced cashew nuts, organic rice, and potatoes. It can be sliced or grated as a topping, melted in cooking and baking, heated in a microwave, or grilled in an oven.
The cheese has already made its debut at Max’s Pizza by Burgreens, the first plant-based pizza joint in Indonesia.

Green Rebel Foods’ cheddar cheese is available on its official website, ecommerce platforms, and Burgreens Outlets, and is expected to hit supermarket shelves in January 2022, the company said.
Plant-based ingredients are an ideal source of calcium, CEO and co-founder Helga Angelina Tjahjadi said in a statement. She added that the firm was enthusiastic about launching the product on November 1, which marked the start of vegan month.
