Man Killed His Girlfriend Due To Facebook Jealousy

FB jealousyLast month, we covered a study that raised the issue of Facebook causing jealousy.

Because of this very reason, a man killed his girlfriend on March 12, 2009.

Brian Lewis is accused of first stabbing his girlfriend, Hayley Jones and then struggling her to death while she was trying to get some sleep. Their four children were apparently in their rooms when all that happened.

The relationship first turned sour when Brian lost his job, leaving Hayley no options but to work as a care assistant.

Prosecutor Mark Evans QC said: ”Hayley had at the same time started to expand her social horizons.

She had began spending a lot of time on the internet chat site Facebook. Brian Lewis was to state in interview and to other people that she had been quite secretive about this.

For example, preventing him from accessing the site and switching the computer off to prevent him from seeing any of the content. It is quite clear that Brian Lewis became quite anxious and suspicious of her internet activity.”

The relationship got so bad that Harley had changed her Facebook relationship status to single.

Mr Evans said that Lewis’ side of the story does not match up with the evidence collected from fellow drinkers at the Phillipstown social club he was at on the evening of March 8. They all claimed to hear him saying: ”If I can’t have her, then no f***** else will because I will kill her first.
