Telcos and ecommerce firms dominate social media engagement in Indonesia

Sotrender

Local telco Telkomsel boasted the top Twitter engagement in Indonesia last month, according to a pair of reports from social media analytics firm Sotrender.

Poland-based Sotrender aims to help businesses understand their social media impacts and make strategy decisions based on real-time data and reports. Its latest frontier is Indonesia.

The reports include data on Facebook pages and Twitter profiles across nine categories: automotive, banking, beverages, cosmetics, ecommerce, fashion, food, technology, and telecommunications.

Telkomsel had a total of 1,202 basic tweets, with 78,092 retweets and replies, making it the most engaging Indonesian brand on Twitter. The brand with the highest growth in the archipelago was Samsung, as it increased its number of followers by 52,895, an overall 9 percent uptick. Samsung was followed by XL Axiata, which grew its followers by 34,575, and Starbucks Indonesia saw an increase of 26,352.

Indonesia’s top grower on Facebook was OLX Indonesia, with an increase of 250,739 fans. Before the growth, the page previously had around 4.18 million fans. OLX was followed by Bintang Beer, which gained 192,179 fans.

The brand with the highest response rate on Facebook (meaning the percentage of posts that were replied to) was again Telkomsel at 86.46 percent. It was followed closely by Tokopedia at 84.84 percent.

Sotrender exists in Indonesia in partnership with global social media monitor Brand24 and creative agency Joy Intermedia.
