Meesho soars 46% in stock market debut

Indian ecommerce platform Meesho made a bumper debut, opening at 162.05 rupees (US$1.80) on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and 161.20 rupees (US$1.70) on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) compared with its issue price of 111 rupees (US$1.20).

The listing price represents a 46% jump from the offer price on the NSE and 45.2% on the BSE, underscoring solid investor demand for Meesho.

The SoftBank-backed company has raised US$603 million in its IPO and plans to use some of the proceeds to expand across India.

Founded in 2015 by Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal, Meesho connects small manufacturers with price-sensitive consumers, primarily in India’s smaller cities. Its competitors include Amazon India and Flipkart.

During the listing ceremony in Mumbai, Aatrey said that while stock prices naturally fluctuate, Meesho’s vision remains the same: to digitalize a billion Indian consumers and build a platform that empowers every Indian business.

Meesho says it enables 700,000 annual transacting sellers and small businesses, serving over 234 million annual transacting users. It handled 2.3 billion orders for the 12 months ending September 30, 2025.

Mukul Arora, co-managing partner at Elevation Capital, also said at the listing ceremony that if it weren’t for Meesho, “ecommerce would still be restricted to a privileged few – [the] top 3% to 5% of India.” The VC firm is one of the earliest investors in the ecommerce platform.

For Anil Sharma, co-founder of research platform IPO Central, Meesho’s proven business model and unique “no commission” feature results in high stickiness for sellers. This, in turn, gives buyers a wider selection of goods, he tells Tech in Asia.
