Indonesia’s central bank reveals large burglary case involving e-wallet player
Bank Indonesia, the country’s central bank, revealed that a large electronic money burglary involving a digital wallet operator had taken place on Thursday, according to a CNN Indonesia report.
Destry Damayanti, BI’s senior deputy governor, made the announcement, but she didn’t mention which payment system service provider was targeted.
Speaking at a guest lecture at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, Damayanti said that the case has been handled by the central bank and the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

She also pointed out that this problem isn’t new, and consumers should look at the track record of providers before using them to save large amounts of money.
Indonesia’s total e-wallet transaction value size is expected to reach US$15 billion by 2020, according to a recent report by The Asian Banker.
Lured by the prospect of huge returns, many consumers lose money because they’re not careful about where they place their funds, Damayanti added.
