Singapore's fighting game and Pokemon community, get hyped: more events coming to Minnacon 2014

Blazblue: Chronophantasma, Melty Blood: Actress Again Current Code fighting game tournaments and a Pokemon X&Y gym circuit will be held at Minnacon this year on June 7.

Minnacon is an annual anime, comics and games convention in Singapore co-organized by the National University of Singapore’s Comics and Animation Society and the Nanyang Technological University’s Visual Arts Society, with the support of the Singapore Cosplay Club.

First up, here’s what we know about the BlazBlue: Chronophantasma and Melty Blood: Actress Again Current Code tournaments: very little, aside from the fact that they are happening and they are both going to be played in the double elimination format. But if you’re interested in getting yourself a part of the action, we recommend you follow the Rebel 2 Facebook group page where the announcement was originally posted, because none of this is currently listed on the Minnacon Facebook page.

For the Pokemon fans, you’re in luck because the good people at Minnacon have already released quite a good bit of information relating to the gym circuit they will be holding this year.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, gym circuits are basically competitions where players pit their Pokemon against a fixed set of Gym Leaders, who each use a specific Pokemon type.

Defeating a Gym Leader yields a gym badge, and at Minnacon these badges have all been exclusively designed. The first ten trainers to defeat all the gym leaders will receive an additional prize on top of the limited edition swanky badges they get to keep.

More information on the Pokemon gym circuit is currently available on the Minnacon Facebook page, so Pokemon master-hopefuls should definitely hop to it and sign up right now.

However do take note that Minnacon’s main event will be its cosplay competition, which will also feature a karaoke performance segment.

All in all, Minnacon is shaping up to be a pretty exciting event for Singaporean nerds, and June 7 is definitely a date we should be marking down in our own personal calendars.
