How To: Track The Singapore General Election on Twitter in Real-Time

The visualizer designed by Tribal DDB and Brandtology analyzes the Singapore General Election Buzz on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Blog). But it doesn’t really show us the buzz in real-time. Or at least it doesn’t appear real-time.

Thanks to Colin Toh, a final year student at National University of Singapore, we now have a web app which captures all the Singapore Election Twitter coverage in real-time.

On the homepage, users can select the area of interest on a gorgeous map which will smoothly lead you to the page that tracks your buzz of interest. While some might argue that a simple Twitter search could do the same, Toh’s Twitter aggregator makes the user experience way better.

“I wanted to track the elections news in my GRC and there is really no easy way of doing it. So I got my hands dirty on the app. The updates are almost real-time as my app will long poll Twitter within intervals of a few seconds. I’m a NUS student but I’m graduating after my last paper on Wednesday,” Toh explained when asked what inspired him to create this web app.

The rise of social media in this Singapore General Election has not only given multiple channels for citizens to voice their opinions, it has also triggered the birth of many web apps to help track online conversations better.
