About three-quarters of Singapore respondents access the Internet through their mobile phones daily, while 84 percent have already used their phones to research or purchase goods, revealed the MEF Global Consumer Survey.
Of the goods purchased through mobile phones, 40 percent are digital goods while 15 percent are physical, electronic goods. Mobile banking has also become a popular activity among Singaporeans, with 32 percent of respondents checking their bank balance and 18 percent paying bills on mobile.
“This global research clearly demonstrates that consumers across the world are embracing mobile as a key access point for their content and commerce needs,” said Andrew Bud, global chairman of MEF, “it also illustrates that mobile is an essential platform for companies wishing to drive consumer engagement and monetise their goods, services and digital products.”
The survey had 8,530 respondents in nine countries and five continents, hailing from both developed and developing markets. However, it is unclear how many of these respondents are Singaporeans, or how representative they are of the population.
MEF is a global trade community for companies involved in mobile content and commerce.
