Sina is today saying that its Tumblr-like light blogging site Qing – which is tied to its Weibo microblogging platform – now has just over one million users, a mere two weeks after it came out of private beta.
Sina Qing also got its own iPhone app earlier this week (pictured below), with an Android version already in the works. (Here’s the app if you want to check it out). In addition, a mobile version of the site has come to life – at qing.weibo.com – in the form of a smartphone-friendly HTML5 web app.

Weibo is so closely integrated with Qing that any posts made in the latter automatically get syndicated to the user’s Weibo stream as well. Penn Olson reviewed the light blogging service back in June, before it opened to the public.
Sina Weibo passed 140 million users in May of this year, so there’s huge potential for Qing – so long as people don’t decide that 140 Chinese characters is sufficient for their thoughts.
In recent weeks Sina has expanded Weibo with games and a virtual currency. It has also been making national headlines and driving forward news reporting in the wake of China’s bullet train crash tragedy.
