Shopee takes on Lazada with own livestreaming feature

Ecommerce platform Shopee unveiled new features for its users in Singapore, including an in-app seller live stream feature called Shopee Live.

With Shopee Live, the Singapore-based company looks to bank on the growing demands of its customers in the country for online video content, according to a statement.

The feature will enable sellers, which include official brands, small- and medium-sized enterprises, and micro-entrepreneurs to stream live content featuring their products and instantly answer questions about them. Customers will also be able to purchase featured items without leaving the stream.

Its rival Lazada had previously introduced its own live-streaming feature integrated into its mobile app. The feature was launched in Thailand back in 2018, and is now also available in the Philippines and Malaysia.

In addition to Shopee Live, the company also launched a live in-app trivia game show called Shopee Quiz: an interactive game hosted by local influencers that rewards winners with a share of the Shopee Coins prize pool and products from participating brands.

Participants can also win rewards in groups or earn an extra chance at winning through inviting other participants.
