Temasek is set to lead Hong Kong-based giant Animoca Brands‘ US$100 million round, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the situation.
The deal, which the Singapore state investor looks to finance via convertible bonds, would add to Animoca’s previously announced US$359 million round led by Liberty City Ventures and joined by Sequoia China and Winklevoss Capital. The earlier round propelled Animoca’s valuation to about US$5 billion.
Both Animoca and Temasek declined to answer Bloomberg‘s request for comments.
Animoca is the gaming-focused company behind titles such as The Sandbox and the REVV ecosystem of racing games. It’s also an investor in NFT major OpenSea and decentralized autonomous organization Yield Guild Games.
Animoca will mark Temasek’s latest investment into the blockchain space, following its investment into crypto lender Amber Group’s US$200 million round. However, Temasek had previously stated that it doesn’t directly invest in any specific cryptocurrency.
Yat Siu, CEO of Animoca, will be speaking at Tech in Asia Conference’s virtual platform this year.
