Siri, You’ve Got Company. And it’s a Talking Sheep from Japan.

A few days back Docomo (NYSE:DCM) announced its voice-agent application, Shabette Concier, an app that immediately draws comparisons to Apple’s smartphone personal assistant Siri. The application became available on the Android Market yesterday, and can run on Android version 2.2 or higher.

There are a number of tasks that the application can perform in response to voice commands, like searches from content providers such as Wikipedia, checking train times, or creating a mail or setting an alarm.

While I’ve not tested Shabette Conceir myself [1] a few Japanese early adopters have tested out the application and posted the video on YouTube. The one below is a little out of focus, but gives a good example of the tasks Shabette Concier can do, like setting alarms and even helping out if you have a headache. You can check out screenshots of the app below. The sheep character is pretty cute too.

While many might pass off Docomo’s app as a me-too response to Siri, it should be noted that the company is no stranger to processing spoken input on mobile phones. It has already developed a mobile simultaneous translation system for spoken input, which we first got a look at during the Wireless Expo 2011.
