Creative Technology, an audio and video equipment manufacturing major based in Singapore, announced the death of its CEO and chairperson, Sim Wong Hoo. He was 67.

Sim was one of the city-state’s most well-known tech and startup pioneers.
He founded Creative in 1981 and has held both positions ever since. The company is best known for its audio devices, including the Sound Blaster sound card for computers.
Creative is one of the first homegrown companies that put Singapore on the global map, going public on the Nasdaq in 1992. In 2006, Creative settled with Apple Computer for US$100 million in a legal dispute over music player patents.
Following his death, the board has appointed Song Siow Hui, the current president of the company’s Creative Labs business unit, as interim CEO.
