Zoom to expand into Singapore and hire hundreds of engineers

The US-based company also said it is doubling its data center capacity in the country. This comes after the company opened its data center in Singapore, its first in Southeast Asia, in August of this year.

The video-conferencing platform saw a spike in users this year as more people worked from home amid coronavirus-induced lockdowns imposed around the world, the report noted.

“We plan to immediately hire employees, leveraging Singapore’s highly educated engineering talent pool. Our new R&D center and data center will play a critical role in Zoom’s continued international growth,” said Velchamy Sankarlingam, president of product and engineering for Zoom.

Singapore has taken the top spot as a potential world-leading technology hub this year, according to KPMG’s latest survey of industry insiders. The city-state offers an advanced IT infrastructure, strong government support and IP protection laws, and a deep pool of talent.

With the move, Zoom can potentially capitalize on the city-state’s new work pass in 2021 for foreign professionals and experts looking to start businesses in Singapore.
