The founders of ThirdAI Automation spent years in high-volume manufacturing, where diagnosing equipment failures was often difficult. When tools failed or chip yields dropped, engineers had to sift through scattered logs, sensor data, and maintenance records to find the cause.

Seeing how valuable the best debugging knowledge trapped in documents and people’s heads, the team launched ThirdAI Automation in 2024 to help factories identify the root cause of failures faster using causal AI.

😟 Problem

In semiconductor manufacturing, diagnosing equipment issues is slow to diagnose. Evidence is scattered across many disconnected systems, from tool logs and sensors to maintenance tickets and manuals. This forces engineers into hours or days of manual data-hunting to find the root cause of a problem.

💡 Solution

ThirdAI Automation builds causal AI software that helps factory teams find the real reason for equipment and process failures. The platform connects messy data sources into a single system to provide engineers with evidence-backed explanations.

The system works to:

  • Unify data sources like tool logs, sensor traces, and maintenance notes to eliminate manual data collection.
  • Automatically surface the specific parameters or process steps that changed right before a failure event.
  • Rank likely root causes with supporting evidence from the data, explaining why a failure occurred.
  • Guide engineers with next-step suggestions and save resolutions as reusable playbooks for future incidents.

📊 Market size

The total addressable market in the semiconductor space alone is estimated to be over US$170 billion. Stakes are high as fabs run near capacity, making any short period of downtime costly.

At the same time, increasing process complexity and data overload have outpaced the growth of engineering teams, creating a need for systems that can help scale operational expertise.
