Blizzard is going to release Diablo 3 this year. China loves Blizzard games. Which Chinese publisher will get to make oodles of money off of that when Diablo 3 comes to China? Word on the street is it’s Netease (NASDAQ:NTES).
The rumor, based on an implication in a report from Lyon Securities that Netease has already gotten the contract, hasn’t been confirmed yet by either party, so take it with a grain of salt. That said, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Netease operates Blizzard’s Battlenet service — which Diablo 3 will use — as well as World of Warcraft and StarCraft 2 in China.
I’ll be following Diablo 3 closely so I’ll be sure to let you know when there’s an official announcement.
