Rising SE Asian startups: a good week for fintech players

Which are the startups that are on the path to becoming the next big thing? In this regular post, we give you an overview of the companies that have raised money in the past week, as well as those we think investors should look at.

1. Momo (Vietnam)

Momo, which is said to have been Vietnam’s most downloaded e-wallet app in 2018, has raised series C funding. The startup was founded in 2013 and has raised US$133.8 million to date. More info.

Investor: Warburg Pincus

2. Warung Pintar (Indonesia)

Warung Pintar develops prefabricated ‘smart kiosks’ that are placed on Indonesian roadsides and managed by micro-entrepreneurs. It is one of the fastest-growing startups in East Ventures’ portfolio, and aims to have more than 5,000 by the end of 2019. More info.

Amount raised: US$27.5 million

Investors: Existing investors plus new investor Ovo

3. Singapore Life (Singapore)

After raising US$20 million in December, digital insurance firm Singapore Life has raised another round of funding. More info.

Amount raised: US$13 million

Investor: Aberdeen Standard Investments

4. Delegate (Singapore)

Event-planning platform Delegate raised its first-ever institutional funding since its founding in 2015. Delegate offers a free-to-use platform and connects users with event vendors. More info.

Amount raised: US$1 million

Investors: Led by a Singapore-based family office and former Zopim (now Zendesk Chat) executives

5. Signature Market (Malaysia)

E-commerce platform Signature Market has raised a series A funding round. The startup, founded in 2014, aims to make healthier food products more accessible and affordable in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. More info.
