Google Cloud names new head for SEA business

Google Cloud has announced the appointment of Mark Micallef as the managing director of its Southeast Asia business.

In this role, Micallef will be responsible for driving regional strategy, team development, and revenue performance for Google Cloud and Google Workspace. He will report directly to Karan Bajwa, vice president of Asia Pacific at Google Cloud.

Micallef previously held leadership roles in companies such as Anaplan, Cloudera, Citrix, and Trend Micro.

Google Cloud has been expanding its presence in Southeast Asia, with its clients including companies such as AI Singapore, Axiata Group Berhad, Globe Telecom, and Nanyang Technological University.

Recently, the Singapore’s central bank announced a partnership with Google Cloud on generative AI. The partnership aims at developing AI projects for internal use and equip the central bank’s staff with “deep AI skillsets.”

Google is also part of Singapore’s AI Verify Foundation.
