Indian edtech startup BitClass acquihires platform for millennials

India-based edtech startup BitClass has acquihired Chase, a Bengaluru-based exploration and learning digital platform designed for millennials. While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, 12 Chase employees, including the company’s founders and engineers, have joined BitClass.

Founded in 2019, Chase offers courses in photography, design, content writing, social media, Instagram marketing, and other creative domains, according to co-founder and CEO Gunjan Kejriwal. It complements BitClass’s goal to create the world’s largest platform for learning anything.

Bitclass said that since its launch in April 2020, around 250,000 paying learners have enrolled in its live classes across 450 unique courses, which are taught by over 5,000 teachers from all walks of life.

The courses on its platform fall under broad categories such as skill building, health and fitness, arts and crafts, music and dance, cooking and baking, among others.

BitClass enables a “try and buy” experience for learners:  For 99 rupees (US$1.33), they can explore as many courses as they want during a two-day workshop. After that, users can deepen their learning by buying the full courses, which are priced between 1,500 rupees (US$20.20) to 50,000 rupees (US$672.60).

The startup, which plans to expand its product portfolio across new categories and geographies, could acquire more companies.

“We are always looking at great teams who can become a part of our mission to ensure that anything that can be taught is available as a live online course for learners. We will certainly look at more acquisitions and acquihires if we get the right fit,” Kejriwal told Tech in Asia.
